11.27 km for Hrodna. Wherever you are in the world.
Hrodna, also known as Grodno, is a city on the Neman River in Belarus. For some of us, it is home. For others, it is a place connected to family history, friendships or travel memories. And for those who have never visited, this is an invitation to discover a connection.
Today, many people from Hrodna live abroad and cannot return home. The team at Hrodna.life, an independent local media outlet in exile, is launching its first virtual run to bring people from Hrodna and friends of the city together across the world.
Join us to get active, earn a commemorative medal and support independent local journalism.
Everyone is welcome. You do not need to be from Hrodna, speak Belarusian or be an experienced runner. All you need is a willingness to take part.
How to take part
A virtual run has no single starting line or fixed route. You choose where to go and when to take part within the event dates.

What if I am not a runner?
This is a shared challenge, not a race. There are no times to beat: the aim is to feel connected.
Choose a long walk if running is not for you. If you are new to running, split the distance into shorter sessions. Prefer cycling? Cover your 11.27 km by bike. And if you are an ultramarathon runner looking for a bigger challenge, you could even aim for 112.7 km!
Record your activity using a fitness app such as Garmin or Strava, then share your result with us. Every participant who completes the distance will receive a commemorative medal.
On Saint Hubert’s Day, we will see how many people have come together through this challenge.
Why 11.27 km? And why November 3?
Each part of the event tells a story about Hrodna.
11.27 km: a link to the city’s history.
The year 1127 is traditionally recognised as the date of Hrodna’s first mention in historical chronicles.
November 3: Saint Hubert’s Day.
Saint Hubert is the patron saint of hunters and is also regarded as a protector of Hrodna.
A medal featuring Saint Hubert’s stag.
A stag with a golden cross between its antlers has appeared on Hrodna’s coat of arms for centuries. Everyone who completes the challenge will receive a specially designed commemorative medal by post.
